"FLOR DE AMOR" SPECIAL SYMPHONIC PROJECT

Omara Portuondo, Cuba's most-loved diva, finally realizes her most precious dream, presenting us with her "Special Symphonic Project".

Considered the Caribbean's most important artist of recent decades, Omara Portuondo began her artistic career in the 1940s in the world famous "Tropicana".
A woman of character and owner of one of the most beautiful and incomparable voices, also known as the diva of the "Buena Vista Social Club" due to her participation in the worldwide famous Wim Wender's movie, Omara Portuondo brings to us yet another unique project of great beauty and a sublime mixture of formats, by fusing Cuba's most glorious music spanning the 1920s to the 1950s with a symphonic style.

This project was born out of the recording of her new album "Flor de Amor" -recently nominated for a Grammy- produced by Nick Gold and the young and talented Brazilian producer Alé Siqueira. In this new album, full of tonalities, exquisite string arrangements and elegant mixtures of the Cuban and Brazilian cultures, Omara Portuondo sees her greatest ambition in life come true.
The project begins in September of 2003 after a most thoughtful repertoire selection, rich in nuances, which involved the most celebrated Cuban music styles such as the "danzón", the "bolero", the "mambo", the "cha cha cha" and the "son".

Cuban arranger Maestro Roberto Sánchez Ferrer, who had worked for more than 40 years in symphonic music, was chosen to produce arrangements that would transmit all of the strength and beauty of Cuba's Golden Era of music.
Berlin was the choice for the introduction: a magical evening, an only-show scheduled for July 5th, 2004. In the mythical Gendarmenmarket, for the CLASSIC OPEN AIR FESTIVAL, along with the German Symphonic Orchestra Deutschen Filmorchester Babelsberg conducted by American-born Scott Lawton, all the elements were brought together with style and symphonic elegance, performing the Cuban music in a most outstanding way.

The result was an unforgettable concert attended by over 7000 people with a repertoire of 21 beautiful songs, which turned out to be a success both by critic and audience. Omara Portuondo was at her best, with her renditions being worthy of even the greatest of occasions as well as fascinating music that transmitted the beauty of Cuba's most traditional and deep-rooted music.
This concert continues as a reality through a tour project never before attempted by another Cuban artist. Omara Portuondo wishes to bring Cuban culture, very prevalent in the world over recent years due to the incredible success of the Buena Vista Social Club", to new heights by continuing as one of its most successful ambassadors and sounding better than ever.
